The renal unit is an integral part of the Department of Internal Medicine at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The unit is active in all renal specialities namely general nephrology, low clearance and renal vasculitis as well as pre and post-transplant and dialysis clinics. The team do not offer an acute dialysis service and is not a transplant centre. This means our team work very closely with Addenbrookes hospital.

We have two consultants who provide both the general nephrology and pre-dialysis services along with the help of a renal specialist nurse and renal secretary. The team run pre-dialysis education clinics on site as well as vascular access and transplant assessment clinics and refer into Addenbrookes services for any required dialysis related procedures and transplant services. Dr Ugni provides support and advice to the wards when managing inpatients with renal disease. Dr Gunda is the lead consultant for the dialysis unit. The team are very involved in research as a department and have many trials alongside our research and development team.

Your appointment

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to appointments as this allows time for observations to be taken. If patients have received blood forms to be taken prior to clinic the team usually suggest this is done one week before the appointment. Please bring a urine sample with you when you attend for appointments.
