Join the fight against the winter vomitting bug

With winter approaching, people are being asked to help keep Norovirus out of hospitals.

Dr Ian Hosein, Associate Medical Director for Infection Prevention and Control at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn, said: “Norovirus is one of the most infectious agents that we face in the NHS every year.

“The virus is also called the winter vomiting virus since it becomes a particular threat as winter intervenes. With this in mind and with Norovirus already spreading in the community this year it is important everyone remembers the key practices to fight these bugs.

Key practices

  • Do not visit the Trust if you have experienced diarrhoea or vomiting in the past 72 hours.
  • Wash your hands regularly and particularly before and food or drink is consumed.
  • Food coming into the hospital is not a good idea. Protect yourself and your family and friends by thinking carefully before bringing food and drink into the Trust, especially unwrapped food which is vulnerable to germs.
