Upper Gastro-Intestinal

Our Upper Gastro-Intestinal team deals with Cancer referrals from GPs. We received 987 referrals (146 were diagnosed with a Cancer) from January to December 2019.

We provide out-patient consultations and diagnostics, including Radiology,Endoscopy and Laparoscopic Staging or Direct Access Endoscopy. Where surgery is an option, patients are referred to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals or Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. Palliative Care, including Surgery, Endoscopy and Chemotherapy, is carried out locally.

We are proud of our multi-disciplinary working and our strong and growing links with regional colleagues and other local services to maintain good working relationships and to enhance patient care.

 We are working to further develop GP referrals directly to our Endoscopy Teams - first implemented in 2017 - as this reduces the waiting time for diagnoses and also means fewer visits to the hospital for patients.
