Physiotherapist

Joules Lodge

Joules is one of our respiratory physiotherapists at QEH and has bene working at the Trust for more than 20 years. She talked to us about why it’s a good place to develop your physio career, and the beauty of the local area:

“As a specialist respiratory physio, I’ve been working on our COVID ward over the last couple of years of course, and children’s wards as well as respiratory outpatients – a little bit of everything really.

“People often work in the team as what we call Band 5 roles for 18 months to two years, where they get to work in the key areas of elderly medicine, orthopaedics, stroke, respiratory medicine, surgery, and intensive care, as well as other areas like women’s health and paediatrics (caring for children), our pain clinic and musculoskeletal outpatients too.

“It gives everyone the opportunity to experience, in greater depth, the areas that they would have covered as a student.

“It means you have the opportunity to find your area of interest, develop, and plan your career progression from there, as to where you might want to narrow their field a little.

“QEH is a very friendly place – it’s a nice mix, with a lot of variety in the work. You also get to meet a lot of the staff, because of the size of the hospital, whereas with bigger places you don’t get that opportunity to meet and work with as many colleagues. There’s probably more communication between everybody and you get to know people so that you can deliver the best care for our patients.

“I really like the rural side of Norfolk and the coastline – you’ve got nice open spaces, smaller communities to live in, but you’re not that far away from larger towns and cities to visit for brighter lights, theatres, and bigger occasions.”
