Steve Barnett

Professor Steve Barnett
Trust Chairman

Steve has more than three decades of experience working in senior NHS positions. He serves at both The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and West Herts Hospital NHS Trust where he has been Chair for three years, during which time the hospital was removed from special measures.

He is no stranger to our hospital, having previously supported the Trust's work on the quality improvement programme, which saw the Trust exit special measures in 2015.

Alan Brown
Non Executive Director, Vice Chairman and Senior Independent Director

Alan has worked in IT for almost 40 years, the last 10 of which have been in healthcare. He has been a Non Executive Director for 3 years, initially at Hinchingbrooke Health and Care NHS Trust and, more recently, at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Alan moved to Norfolk in 2016 and continues to work, part time, as a partner in a consultancy company.
 

David Dickinson
Non Executive Director

David recently retired from the post of Director of Resources at Newark and Sherwood District Council in Nottinghamshire and now lives in West Norfolk. He is a qualified accountant and was a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). David will take over as Chair of the Audit Committee.

Non Executive Director

Dr Ian Mack worked in the NHS as a doctor in West Norfolk for most of his working life, after joining The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kingís Lynn as a House Physician in 1985. He was a GP in West Norfolk between 1992 and 2017 combining this with commissioning work in West Norfolk Primary Care Trust. Then in 2007, he became a member and subsequently Chair of the Clinical Executive of NHS Norfolk. In 2013 he became Chair of West Norfolk CCG . He also was elected as a Vice Chair of Norfolk's Health and Wellbeing Board.

He was the Clinical Lead for stroke for NHS Norfolk, implementing clot-busting treatment and improved rehabilitation care and also Chair of the Long Term Conditions Programme Board

He has a Master of Science in Gerontology from Kingís College London, researching care for older people in UK compared to other European countries.

For many years he was Chair of the Governing Body of primary schools in West Norfolk, and also served for 10 years as Borough Councillor on Kingís Lynn and West Norfolk Council, including six years as Vice Chair of the Cabinet Scrutiny Committee. He retired from the CCG in September 2017.

He is currently the Vice Chair of the Board of Alive Leisure, a Charity which runs Sports, Arts and Leisure Facilities in West Norfolk.

Caroline Shaw CBE
Chief Executive

Caroline joined The Queen Elizabeth Hospital from Nottingham University NHS Trust, where she was Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer.

Caroline started her NHS career as a nurse before moving into midwifery, with more than three decades' NHS and leadership experience working at Trusts around the country, including Leicester, Nottingham and Manchester.

Frankie has joined us on a secondment from the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

Having trained in Oxford and London, Frankie is now a practicing physician in Endocrinology with extensive leadership experience.
