Outreach services at Fakenham Medical Centre - Midwifery

A midwife with mother and childThe Maternity Unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital provides the benefits of a rural but modern Obstetric Unit. Last year we delivered almost 2500 babies from families from Norfolk Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire who all chose the Maternity Unit as their maternity provider of choice

The hospital antenatal service comprises of a busy clinic and sonography service as well as a pregnancy day assessment unit.

The Inpatient Unit provides the opportunity for low risk women to experience minimum intervention during their labour and birth where the use of the birth pool is promoted for pain relief as well as a birthing environment. Midwives are encouraged to use all their midwifery skills when caring for women and their babies and normality in childbirth is actively promoted. However, if a problem becomes apparent during the labour or delivery, there is reassurance that emergency assistance is always available on the Obstetric Unit.
