Temporary change to Emergency Department entrance

Please check before travelling to our Emergency Department

As part of ongoing work to improve our Emergency Department (ED) and create a more clinically appropriate environment for patients, the entrance to the department will temporarily move from 7 September for around three months.

The temporary entrance will allow essential improvement works to continue safely while the Emergency Department remains open and providing care throughout.

If you are attending the Emergency Department, please follow the clearly marked signs and instructions from our staff when you arrive. Our way finders will also be on hand to help patients and visitors find their way.

If you are attending the Paediatric Emergency Department, you will also need to report to the main ED reception before being directed to the temporary Paediatric ED, just inside the main entrance.

Please help us keep the area clear

While these improvement works are taking place, there will be some additional constraints around the Emergency Department and main entrance. We are working to keep disruption to a minimum, but we need your help to keep the area safe, accessible and free from congestion.

Where possible, please:

• Limit the number of people accompanying patients to the Emergency Department to those who are needed
• Avoid using the area immediately outside the ED and main entrance for drop-offs where possible
• If you need to drop off a patient, please continue further along the road past the ED and main entrance, helping to prevent congestion in this already busy area
• Use drop-off areas for quick drop-offs and pick-ups only and do not wait or park in these areas
• Keep access routes clear for emergency vehicles at all times
• Avoid gathering immediately outside the main entrance
• If you have reduced mobility, consider using our patient buggy service where appropriate to help you travel between the car parks and hospital entrance

Clear signs will be located around the hospital and our way finders will be available to support patients and visitors with directions.

Please remember: our hospital is smokefree

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the hospital site or within the hospital grounds. Please do not smoke outside the Emergency Department or main entrance.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding. We are keeping disruption to a minimum while this important work takes place and your support will help us continue to provide safe and effective care.

The Emergency Department remains open throughout the works.
