Apply to become a volunteer
There are five simple steps to becoming a volunteer with us. For all roles you will need to have the right to work in the UK.
Complete the application with as much detail as possible. This will help us consider whether we have an opportunity that is a good match for your interests, skills and personality. Please also remember to include your availability. You must be over the age of 18 to volunteer in patient facing roles, and a minimum age of 17 to volunteer (with signed parental consent). Please note that an incomplete form will delay your application.
Once we have received your application, we will give you a call to talk to you about the next steps. This will include inviting you to an informal interview enabling you to find out more about volunteering at The QEH and for us to find out a bit more about you.
We are on hand to guide you through the process of verifying identity documents, checking references, completing an occupational health check and a disclosure and barring service (DBS) check.
All volunteers are required to undertake an induction programme. This covers all the training that volunteers need before starting their placements. Induction helps to prepare volunteers for the hospital environment and establishes the boundaries between staff and volunteer roles.
After your induction, the team will arrange your uniform, ID badge and parking (as needed). We will buddy you with one of our experienced volunteers who will show you the ropes. Once you’re confident in your duties we can get you settled into your regular volunteering day and time. The team are always on hand for support and guidance, along with the staff in your placement area. We all want you to get the most out of your time volunteering with us.
