Our Strategy 2024-2030 – Valuing our people
We will create a values-driven organisational culture that engages and motivates our people, enabling them to meet the needs of our patients, our team, and our local community. We will collaborate with our strategic partners and stakeholders to identify our current and future workforce needs, making The QEH an employer of choice
We are committed to making our hospital a great place to work.
Why
Nothing happens without our people. Providing great patient care rests on great staff, volunteer and student experience. Being an employer of choice will mean fantastic careers and care for our population.
How
We will align our work with the four pillars of the NHS People Plan:
- looking after our people
- belonging in the NHS
- growing for the future
- new ways of working and delivering care.
We will introduce values based best practice processes, policies and approaches to improve engagement and experience for all staff, enabling them to bring their whole selves to work.
Measuring success
- We will measure the engagement, motivation, and alignment with our values of our people by conducting and analysing regular Trust, national, and quarterly pulse surveys
- We will review retention and turnover rates and gather feedback from various sources, including Trade Unions, Freedom to Speak Up Guardians, and external stakeholders
Agnieszka’s journey
Case study
Agnieszka joined the Trust on a bank contract 10 years ago and has been a dedicated member of our nursing service. She initially worked as a maternity support worker for 6.5 years but sought career progression to become a nurse.
Agnieszka joined the Trainee Nursing Associate course and was assigned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she received exceptional support. After completing the two-year course, she became a Band 4 Associate. Agnieszka then progressed to the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship, which she started in October 2023.
She is currently based on Denver ward and completing a placement on Necton. Agnieszka values the apprenticeship for fitting around her family commitments, allowing her to earn and learn without incurring debt. She appreciates the support and knowledge shared by her colleagues, which has been instrumental in her journey.
Actions taken
Agnieszka is making significant progress in her Nursing Degree Apprenticeship and is due to complete the programme in August 2025.
She is one of the highest achievers in her cohort, receiving excellent feedback from tutors, patients, and colleagues.
Agnieszka is known for her professionalism, passion, and kindness, making her a fantastic advocate for patients and staff. We look forward to her qualifying and continuing to work with us.
