Rehabilitation services - Community stroke team

The Stroke Rehabilitation Team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practioners and Therapy Assistants. We cover the Acute Stroke Ward, West Raynham Ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital from Sunday to Friday weekly and Community Stroke Rehabilitation for West Norfolk patients, on a Monday to Friday basis.

As a team we work closely with other members of staff, for example, Clinical Psychology, Doctors, Nurses, Speech and Language Therapist, Dieticians and the Stroke Association.

Within our sessions we assess for and treat deficits as a result of stroke, for example, reduced muscle strength, altered sensation, poor co-ordination, impaired cognition and reduced functional abilities. This is not an exhausitve list as we also assist in enabling people to return to work after their stroke.

All our rehabilition is centred around the stroke survivor, their family/carers and working towards the achievement of goals set by the patient. Our treatments take place in a range of environments, from the ward through to taking a bus trip to the supermarket, your treatment plan will always be set up in discussion with your therapist and the aims of the session. Treatment should also continue in between your sessions to enable maximum progression, this can take the form of exercise programmes left by your therapist and practice of specific activities.
