Around one in every five staff at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital suffered harassment, bullying or abuse by patients or their relatives last year, according to a staff survey. And of those who experienced physical violence almost a third didn’t bother reporting it, despite being aware of the NHS ‘zero tolerance’ policy.
A random sample of 423 staff across the Trust were questioned, to give a snapshot of how they felt about their working conditions. On the positive side, figures for attacks on staff have reduced slightly since last year – and are broadly in line with the experience of other Trusts.
