Valuing Equality and Diversity

We are committed to promoting diversity and equality of opportunity in all its forms.

Our patients, their carers and our staff deserve to expect an environment in which they feel respected, valued and empowered. We recognise that some groups in society continue to experience discrimination and also that some groups may not be protected by law.

We are committed to ensuring that not only our legal duties are carried out, but also that we promote a culture in which all forms of discrimination are considered unacceptable and that diversity is valued.

Single Equality Scheme

Our Single Equality Scheme incorporates all of the good work already done on race, disability and gender to include age, marriage or civil partnership, Pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, gender reassignment and sexual orientation which are defined as ‘protected characteristics’.

The Scheme has been developed to tackle all forms of discrimination, regardless of what it is, and to promote all forms of diversity, promoting equality for all.

The purpose of the Single Equality Scheme is to ensure a strong and consistent corporate approach, whilst still recognising the individual needs and priorities of the protected characteristics.
