Pay and display

A pay-and-display system is in operation in the hospital. This is managed by an outside company and parking restrictions are enforced.

At times the car park can become very busy. Please allow yourself good time to find a parking space.

Parking spaces marked in blue are exclusively for the use of patients and visitors.

If you are using a satnav to find your way to the hospital our postcode is PE30 4ET.

Parking charges

Pay-and-display charges are currently:

  • Up to 2 hours: £2.60
  • Up to 3 hours: £3.90
  • Up to 4 hours: £5.20
  • Up to 5 hours: £6.50
  • Up to 8 hours: £10.40
  • 8 to 24 hours: £15.60
  • Weekly ticket: £28.00

Pay for parking

You can arrange your parking up to seven days in advance and search the location list for supported Pay & Display parking areas at The QEH.

Please note that paying for parking ahead of arriving at a location does not reserve you a space to park.

Ways to pay

You can pay for parking by using a ticket machine. These accept card payments and cash. The machines do not give change. A change machine is available in the main hospital foyer near reception.

You can also pay by the MiPermit app (available on the App Store and Google Play) or by telephone.

SMS

Send an SMS to 61600, with the word PARK followed by your vehicle registration number (for example, PARK T123EST). We'll then call you back to take the details of your stay and your card payment information (the call will be an automated service).

Online

Click here to pay for parking online without having to register for an account.

Register for a cashless parking account

You can also register for cashless parking. Once registered, when you next need to pay for parking, we won't ask you for your car registration number and card payment details.

To register for cashless parking, you'll need your:

  • mobile number
  • vehicle registration
  • payment card details

Once registered you can then create your parking stay:

  • by telephone
  • by SMS
  • online
  • using the iOS or Android app

To extend your stay by SMS

If you need to extend your stay, you can do so by SMS or by logging in to a MiPermit portal. To extend, send an SMS to 61600 with the word EXTEND and the duration to extend by.

For example:

EXTEND 30mins

EXTEND 1hour

Ticket machine

Purchase your ticket from our onsite ticket machines using coins or card. Please ensure that you bring the correct change as our ticket machines do not issue change. A change machine is located in the main entrance along with an ATM machine (please note there is a £1.75 charge for withdrawals).

If your hospital appointment takes longer than you anticipated and you are concerned that you may have over-stayed your parking limit, please inform a member of staff who will be able to help.

Blue Badge Holders

Blue Badge holders are entitled to free parking onsite. Our ticket machines only issue tickets for up to three hours – if these needs extending, please speak to a member of staff at your appointment who will be able to do this for you.

Free Buggy Service

We have a free buggy service for visitors with mobility issues running from 9am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday from our main car park. You can board the buggy at the bottom of the first ramp in the main car park, at the wheelchair shelter. The buggy takes a circular route up to the Emerson Unit, followed by the main entrance and then back down to the car park. You can watch the route taken on this video. Please feel free to use this service for one or both of your journeys to the hospital if you need to.

Accessible parking

This is for holders of a valid Blue Badge attending hospital as a patient or visitor, or for a disabled person employed by the Trust. Disabled patients and visitors receive free parking for the duration of their attendance at, or visit to, the hospital. Disabled employees receive free parking while at the hospital for purposes relating to their employment.

More than 60 accessible parking spaces are available throughout the site. Blue Badge holders will need to display a free three hour ticket as well as their Blue badge in their car windows, this tickets can be obtained from the pay and display machines. In cases where your appointment may be over three hours, please let a member of staff know so we can inform the car parking team.

Frequent outpatient attenders

Free parking will be provided to all out-patients who attend hospital for an appointment at least three times within a month and for an overall period of at least three months. A 'month' is defined as a period of 30 days. Please speak to the reception staff in the area you are attending for further details.

Parents of sick children staying overnight

This is for a parent or guardian of a child or young person, under 18 years of age, who is admitted as an inpatient at hospital overnight. They receive free parking between the hours of 7.30pm and 8am while visiting the child. This would apply to a maximum of two vehichles.

Motorcycles park for free

Parking is free for motorcycles and you do not require a parking permit.

Staff car parking

We recognise that finding a space can be difficult some days, as our hospital becomes busier with visiting and clinic appointments reinstated.

The patrols by the Council are increasing to support respectful parking, with fines in operation. This means that it is really important that staff take the following actions:

  • Display a valid parking permit or parking scratch card in your car at the start of your shift
  • If your permit is out of date, please contact on the Car parking office (located in the Estates area)
  • Please consider: if you have a parking permit but could get to site via other means i.e. walking, cycling, bus please consider these options to help those that have to bring their cars
