Denise Smith, Chief Operating OfficerDenise Smith

Denise joined The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) as Interim Chief Operating Officer in April 2019 from Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (SFH), where she has been Deputy Chief Operating Officer since 2017. She became our substantive Chief Operating Officer in March 2020. Her portfolio includes the operational service delivery of the Clinical Divisions, to achieve the annual operational plan and constitutional standards, and Estates and Facilities Services.

Denise brings to QEH significant primary and secondary care, commissioning and provider experience. Over the last decade Denise has worked in senior leadership roles in North Lincolnshire, Liverpool, Sherwood Forest and now at QEH. Prior to this, Denise worked at NHS North Lincolnshire as Head of Commissioning and North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust as Head of Primary Care Delivery.

Denise is passionate about improving patient and staff experience and is a team player, committed to achieving to continuous service and operational delivery through the development of others.
