Anticoagulation
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital anticoagulation team is based in Pathology and acts as a source of expertise and knowledge for patient, carers and other health care professionals from within the hospital as well as a wide catchment area. The team work in collaboration with other hospital staff and community anticoagulation services to provide the highest possible standard of care and support to patients who are on anticoagulation therapy. Providing daily anticoagulation clinics for INR management, duration of anticoagulation treatment, pre-endoscopy advice and initial follow-up of patients commenced on Direct Oral Anticoagulants.
The anticoagulation and thrombosis teams will be aware of current clinical research, protocols, investigations and procedures employed in the diagnosis and treatment of clotting disorders and anticoagulation dosing protocols.
The team maintain the momentum of the National Venous Thromboembolism Prevention programme, including root cause analysis (RCA) of all potential cases of Hospital associated Thrombosis, monthly RCA report and monthly Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment report which are a key quality control measurement and part of the NHS Acute Standard contract and the NHS Legislative Authority (NHSLA) and remains a vital quality control initiative.
