Surgery and Amputee Rehabilitation

Surgery and Amputee Rehabilitation, a sub-specialty of our Rehabilitation Services Department

The team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants who cover the surgical wards of Denver, Elm and Leverington at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The service is provided from Monday to Saturday 8:30 to 16:45 and as a team we review and treat all the major post–operative surgery patients with an aim to prevent complications of surgery, for example chest infection, reduced mobility and reduced independence.

As a team we work closely with Nurses, Surgeons, Podiatrists, Social Workers, Dieticians, Clinical Psychologists.

We also provide an out-patient amputee rehabilitation service on Mondays and Thursdays where we assess and treat patients as a result of either a single leg or both leg amputation with the aim to obtain maximum functional ability either as a prosthetic user or an independent wheelchair user.
